PLATO'S PHAEDRUS
Col. 11 min - Australia 2006
ABSTRACT [from the film]
This project is the first of a long series of experiences through the main developments of philosophy. And it is with love that it begins. With love as the only way to combine the two sides of the soul: reason and need. And with metaphysics as the only way to make explicit and self conscious the implicit and subconscious ideal of the people.
Referring to the Greek mythology, consequently acquired and reviewed but the Latin culture, the world could be simply divided into two main spheres: the mortal one in which we can have access, and the immortal one, lived by gods and in which no man can have access. The relationship within the two spheres is extremely rigid: a mortal being can never become immortal, nor it is possible for him to achieve a visual relation with the gods , etc… And from that comes the consideration of faith as a pure decision and control made by the divinities to the mortal world. However, elements were built to make an exception: Eros, also known as Cupids or Amore. He is the one who was born from the relationship within a mortal woman and a divine being and therefore condemned to live in the middle within the mortal and the immortal sphere. For his nature Eros is not a god, but a demon. And he is the only one who can cover the conjunction within those two words, otherwise inaccessible. But he is also the symbol of love, and it is at this point that Plato reveals his definition of the metaphysical world (READ MORE).
